To whom it may concern:
I have some old Microsoft works files I want to take off of my backup CD, about 2 or 3 years old now. The only problem is, I think Works may be the only word processor that I can't access the files to in Open Office. I'm not shitty, just kinda bummed. I'm downloading the update right now, but if it's not in there, maybe you could look into it?...If I could program, I'd do it myself.

libwps is a library made last year that allows OpenOffice.org, Abiword, etc. to easily import Microsoft Works word processor documents (.wps) with basic formatting. In the mainstream OpenOffice.org, libwps seems to be stagnating waiting for legal approval. However, libwps is in ooo-build, so NeoOffice and Ubuntu Feisty Fawn's OpenOffice.org already include libwps.

As already mentioned, there are other ways to open Works documents. Additionally, if you are a power user, you can compile libwps and use wps2html to convert Works .wps to HTML (which opens in OpenOffice.org).
