Sorry but you are looking at this the wrong way round. It is not that
OOo (OpenOffice.org) cannot (would not be able to) do this. It is that
Wasp have developed their software to integrate with MS Office only. The
technical differences between the MS and OOo software code would require
Wasp to rewrite their program to integrate with OOo. To be fully OOo
compliant Wasp would also need to rewrite their program in a
cross-platform (run on other operating systems eg. Solaris, Linux, Mac)
format, not just MS Windows.

While not the solution you are looking for, it is possible to create
barcodes in OOo documents using barcode fonts.
