In the next OpenOffice, I would appreciate the option of assigning
keyboard shortcuts to special characters. I am far more productive
with this feature. Also, (A HUGE PROBLEM) it would be EXTREMELY
helpful if you allow odd (or even) numbering. I really hate fighting
the word processor to get odd numbering. I also assume it is hard for
people in school who have odd numbers on their homework. If you make
these changes, I will finally have a word processor that is better
than M$ Word.

Hello

You can assign special characters to keyboard shortcuts if you first
make a macro that types the character, then assign this macro to a key
combination.

What do you mean by odd numbers in this case?

Just as OP said, when the odd numbered exercises are assigned, for example, numbers 1-19, odd means all the odd numbered exercises in that range. It is a common practice, in America at least, to include the answers to odd-numbered exercises in the back of school textbooks. Teachers use this to advantage to allow the students to practice with those exercises. The student would have to show how he/she got the answer, however.
