Hello Lars,
may I use this message in another mailing list?
Thanks

Alan,
I am unable to view documents created in Microsoft
Office 2007 (Open XML)
You'll have to find a way to save in another format. Here's why:
No one else can work with ".docx"

Sorry. That's the whole point of .docx and one of the reasons why it's
difficult to create documents in the established formats in MSO 2007.
The demo version of MSO 2007 is even worse:

Once you use MSO 2007 you can not easily go back, as your files get
replaced by new versions that you need the new software to read. The
idea there is the same as before, get people to buy and force their
friends employees and relatives into the deal.
A difference now is that while the earlier MS formats were undocumented,
it was possible with great effort over a long time to reverse engineer
them to a greater or lesser extent. The new format, in contrast, has a
specification over 6000 pages long, which would be a feat to implement,
but in addition to the length there are many important functions which
are left unaddressed as well as proprietary hooks.

You can see the specification yourself (treats insomnia):
http://www.ecma-international.org/publications/standards/Ecma-376.htm
and compare it to what's being used in industry:
http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/download.php/19274/OpenDocument-v1.0ed2-cs1.pdf
The application itself, MSO 2007, also gives you the problem of further
lock-in through sharepoint:

When a vendor turns on you like that, it's like when a dog starts biting
the sheep: there's only one option...
Regards,
-Lars
