Well, as a Lotus WordPro Document, it opens, but the document is empty. Properties say it is a StarWriter document containing a Microsoft Word document. So far it won't give it up. I'll keep trying tomorrow and let you know as soon as something useful happens. :) Added later: I got some things done and tried again. Here are the results of your top 100 list of hits: You can read the names but not the images. Weird. You know there was a release of OOo1.x.x something that butchered files so they would not re-open after saving and closing in anything. But surely you would have noticed something as drastic as that. Opening them up in a text editor yields the best results for getting the text. If there are images, they will be tough to get. Maybe you'll find something new. There are/were some win programs that were good at reading strange or mangled formats, but I can't remember it. Maybe it will come to me later. Goodnight, again. Richard. Obviously _this_ document is not very critical. I actually also have it in flat text form. What interests me is understanding the grander picture. Strange I didn't see that problem until now, years later ... when trying to reopen some of my old documents. Funny about that is, that it both affect documents from the 2002 area and from 2005 ... > Opening them up in a text editor yields the best > results for getting the text. I think the best is if you could write a "global" reply on the list of what you discovered as technical problems. Thanks anyway.
