The FAQ may go one step further and explain how to make them coexist.
The main problem being of course how to link the various filetypes to
the relevant OOo application.
I wouldn't be surprised if MS Office was nasty enough to re-register
itself every once in a while (e.g. upon update) to force it to be the
default app for the file types it can handle. So it'd be good to let
people know how to revert such things.
