could someone please modify the spellchecker to assume that the first

also the only other thing I miss in MS Word is the abilty to print
envelopes.

Hi John
One idea which could help you would be to uncheck "Check uppercase
words" in Tools-Options-Language Settings-Writing Aids, on the basis
that the first two letters in an address will probably be capitals.
Have you looked at
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/FAQ/Writer/Printing
regarding your printing problem?
I actually found that setting up a template which I had adjusted for my
printer and envelope size by printing onto standard A4 paper first was
the simplest way to go, but I know others use the Insert Envelope method
very successfully.

Russell
