When writer tries to recover the file, sometimes it is successful others times not (same file). That seems to depends on if I rename the file and try to open it. If I hit cancel (recovery stage) it will open the recovered file (different named, same file) and lock up. If I am not posting this to the wright place please let me know and where to post this. If I can edit the file, I might be able to get it to work. I see note pad and word will not make sense of the file. Is there a editor program out there that I can use to remove/edit the html and table stuff from the file? I am thinking this is where the problem is, not 100%. thanks Rene In a message dated 3/6/2008 10:44:27 A.M. Eastern Standard Time, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: Hi, not sure if we are talking about the same type of file. I am thinking you might be referring too the main openoffice folder, not a file from one of the modules. I did try to zip it, expand, rename, (not in that order) and did not have any luck, only the original "file" appears and nothing else (no folder). The file is a writer file -"open document text" (like a word file) that locks up my computer. I do have all startup programs off, except MSs programs. I will reboot and turn on everything and try to open, not sure if the soffin.bin program is part of the problem. Will try note pad and maybe word, not sure if word will open it. Thanks for any help. These can be opened with an text editor, such as gEdit, Emacs, Vi or even OpenOffice.org, edited and saved. Then zip it again and rename it to something.odt.
