Cross-posted to .general and .questions. F'ups not set at this time. Hi,
I posted this once before and thought I had it working, but ... no go. So I'll try again. Problem: Getting toc entries to HyperLink to its relevant page number. History: Version 2.3 this worked fine; it worked from the git-go. Version 2.4: Does not create links in the toc to the relevant page numbers. Else format is correct, everything else is right. Repair Attempts: -- Repair Install; no help -- Uninstalled/reinstalled; no help. Currently attempting: To use the Help instructions to implement creating links for the TOC entries. No matter what I do, I lose part of the toc; either the text or the page numbers, and never do get any hyperlinks in the TOC. HELPPPPa PLEASE!!!! a Detailed What I do: -- Open a Word .doc document. The source doesn't matter. These same things happen with an original, natively created .odt document. -- Save it back to disk as an .odt as would be expected. -- Headings are used to create the TOC. Heading levels 1 thru 6. This particular doc is around 100 pages but document size seems to be irrelevant. -- Click Insert | Indexes and Tables | Indexes and Tables -- Preview of resulting dialong looks fine; shows a proper toc, but ... shows it as not having links. By comparing to an older 2.3 created document, in version 2.4, it appears I will see the link colors in the Preview window here if they are turned on. Those documents show that, new documents in 2.4 do not because there are no links to show. -- Help says to: -- Click the Entries tab. -- Click in the structure area, "behind the E," and click Hyperlink. Huh? BEHIND the E? What does that MEAN? There IS an E (for Entry) there, and clicking it highlights it. Its meaning then changes to the beginning of the Hyperlink, or Hyperlink start. OK, maybe it's partly accomplished. -- Then it says to Click E, then click Hyperlink but when I do, "Headingxx" disappears from the Preview. ?? The Preview is now just "........ ... . And if I click OK here, that "..." is exactly what I'll get for the TOC entries! -- Then it says to click in the "box behind the E", and click Hyperlink again. HUH? BEHIND the E? Again? WHAT does that MEAN?? Since now, no E is showing, and I have no idea what "behind the E" can mean, I'm lost! The box choices now are E#, LS, T and #; nothing else. As a result, there is nothing for me to click for the "end" of the hyperlink, now that I have the "start" of it identified! NOW, if I ignore the instructions, why not they aren't valid, and instead click on Hyperlink first, THEN it'll expose an LE, or hyperlink END, but ... it destroys the TOC again! The actions of the boxes, etc. are the same whether it's during creation of a TOC or I create the toc first, sans links, and then choose to Edit it from the context menu. I know it's probably something simple/dumb that I'm overlooking, but ... those Help instructions stink, and this is a showstopper for me. It's a requirement that the TOC links function. Do I need to go back to 2.3, is this a bug in 2.4, or what? I'm really confused. Personally I'm beginning to lean toward this being a bug in 2.4. Does ANYONE have tocs that include links in Writer of version 2.4?
