Put simply, it is far easier, both in terms of manpower and in
lines of coding, to maintain an interface between popular mailers
such as Mozilla Thunderbird than to devise and manage a new one in
the OpenOffice.org code. At least that is the way I see it. :)
But from the enterprise point of view an email/schedule application
is integral part of office suite. Thunderbird is not so good for
enterprise like usage as Evolution. Evolution can connect to the
main enterprise collaboration servers like Exchange and Groupwise.
I am using it as Groupwise client and it has lots of working
functionality. Thunderbird IHMO designed to home users, but of
course try to remove gaps for enterprises, but currently it is not
ready to take over in all areas.
Hi,
I am not worried about which application is used in conjunction with
OOo. It can be Thunderbird, or if you want something with more grunt,
then use Evolution - my point still stands. There are already
developers working on making "the other mail application" a great
program for users, so OOo developers do not need to start another
one. A simple interface that is able to be used by other mail
programs would allow any of them to be utilised and mean less
development/management overall for the OOo developers, but still
offer the "integrated" mail features.
