But help 'goes away' when no document windows are open. Historically the main menu functions are always visible in a Mac application. Those menu functions that are not available at any given moment are grayed out. It would seem the implementation of OO goes against that approach and the root application has only the APPLE and FILE and the specific applications add the other menus and sub-menus as appropriate. In part my 'complaint' is because OO is not 'Mac-like' in this regard.

My logic is this certain menu functions should always be available. Three menu functions come to mind immediately: One is Help. Another is Update. The last one is the URL of the application. If the user closes all the windows, or has problems and can't open windows, then help isn't available and an 'update' isn't possible nor is it possible to get from the application from a URL within the application.

I also couldn't find a menu option to update the software

AFAIK OOo does not auto-update.

Help / Check for Updates...
