Came this utterance fomulated by Reinier Bakels to my mailbox:

Agreed.

> - Does OOo 3.0 really depend on functionality that is not in ME?

Looks that way but someone else will have more info on that.

OO.o 2.x is still supported and will still run on 98 and ME.

In fact 2.4.2 was released after 3.0
What this means is because you don't have the latest greatest operating
system you can't run the latest greatest software. That is normal across
all OS's not just Microsofts offering.

What you can do is get Linux installed on your older box and run that
as well as Windows ME. Ubuntu is the latest posterboy, but you don't
even have to go the whole hog. Get a live disk and see what runs,
without upsetting anything on your windows disk. Be warned live disks
are s-l-o-w as everything runs from the CD including the kernel and
often has to be uncompressed on the fly.

Choose your flavour of Linux here, you can even get a Mint flavour!

Chances are good OO.o v3.0 is supported.
