Finally someone who wants to deal with this problem, because this is a
really big problem. At least if you ask me…

Even on faster machines OpenOffice.org is very slow, compared to most other
software out there.

How do I vote for this project? By only replying?

yes, first we need many +1 votes to create this project

How can I contribute? Have done a bit programming, but I'm not very good at
it… maybe there are other ways to contribute? Testing? I primarily use two
computers:

yes, testing and setting up the test system is one important task.
After setting up this project we will discuss what should be done and who could help by doing what. All your help would be appreciated.

Dieter

Hi,

improving the performance on OOo significantly even on low end
computers is key critical to be successful in the emerging markets
and to be at eye level with our competitors.

For this reason Li Heng from RedOffice and I want to set up a new
incubator project which takes care of the Performance of OOo.

Here's our mission statement and project proposal:

---

MISSION STATEMENT

The goal of the performance project is to analyze the status of
OpenOffice.org performance and identify areas where the performance is
not sufficient. Members of the project will improve the performance in
these areas, and setup a system to monitor performance continuously.

PROJECT PROPOSAL

Members of the performance project will improve the OpenOffice.org
performance by identifying and solving performance bottlenecks.

They will further install or implement tools and tests to analyze the
performance of individual OpenOffice.org master and child workspace
(CWS) builds in order to detect and prevent performance declines and
regressions.

The list of deliverables of the project includes

- a test system for collecting reproducible and comparable performance data
of OpenOffice.org master builds.

- a test methodology for measuring and comparing performance data of
OpenOffice.org master and CWS builds.

- lightweight tools that automatically collect performance data and assist
developers in identifying performance bottlenecks.

- real life test scenarios which will also be reflected in the automatic
performance tests.

- OpenOffice.org startup performance improvements

- OpenOffice.org ODF load/save performance improvements

- Performance oriented analysis of OpenOffice.org's framework

PROJECT LEAD:

We would like to ask all of you to support and to vote for this new
project.

Regards,
Li Heng + Dieter
