I have some recommendations for the next version of Open Office: 1. The date format in Calc needs to include a "dd-MMM-yy" setting. American users also use this format.
Add it yourself. Do right-click, format cells. date and in the DD/MM/YY box at the bottom add M
to the Ms.
2. The number format needs to include a provision for displaying negative numbers in parentheses aligned by decimal. This is common practice in financial data in the USA.
Again add it yourself using a similar procedure to the above. I might add that Excel doesn't have a default negative number default in brackets either... Both of these will appear under User Defined in the formatting context menu...
3. The user interface could be improved to exceed the capabilities, non mimic, those of Office 2007. Having frequently used formatting buttons readily visible is much quicker than having to sort through various drop-down menus.
