On Mon, 31 Aug 2009 01:01:30 +0200 Came this utterance formulated by Max Staudinger (iii-C) to my mailbox:
> i am just downloading 3.1.0, > i am an excited user promoting this also to many people around me > 3.1.1 has just been released. http://development.openoffice.org/releases/3.1.1.html > here are some ideas that always were annoying to me in the ms office: > > 1. when opening files, i always get a tiny scrollbox, but if i want to > choose a file, i need it in detail and full size. i always need to > change the boxes, but next time it is the same again. - this could be > done better in ooo, ms has not managed this since 15 years and also > not reacted to my truly ardently aired desire. > The Open and save dialogue boxes are actually a windows thang (a variation on an explorer window IIUC). In OO.o you have the option of the windows ones or an OO.o replacement. > 2. the last files used function in ooo is not good. it should show > more than the last 9 (why 9, why not 50????) and it should only show > those that relate to the current application eg. calc files only. by > the way the recovery feature is amazing. > > 3. it takes very, very long to open from when i double clikc a calc or > impress file in explorer Load time is decreased if you have the quickstarter running. > 4. in impress, there should be a function to shrink all imported > graphics in one single feature. ppt has it. > Grrr ;) OO.o should not be an Office copycat. If it is a copycat it will never be better than the original, only ever an also-ran. > 5. ooo is very good for laptops, you could generally focus on giving > more useful keyboard shortcuts > Keyboard shortcuts are very customisable. > 6. in calc, the macros are de-facto dysfunctional. i tried to record, > but couldnt find it thereafter, so i dont even know if i recorded at > all. also, macros are made to make my work faster, so it should be > easy to assign a global keyboard shortcut to any macro at teh time > when i stop recording. > Macro's are able to be assigned to keyboard shortcuts. > 7. please give a softbutton and keyboard shortcut for 1,000,000.00 > number format. it is the most needed > > 8. a graphics function that works in all applications where the > surroundigns of an object are removed. e.g. i take a picture of a car, > and i dont want the bush, the house, the people, the sky, just white, > actually just nothing (100%transparent). Since this is smetimes > amigous, a box could pop up and offer thumbnail size proposed frames > to remove the surroundings. It is really a headache, this, the issue > is about the object and the surroundings are always unprofessional. > Removing surroundings is a complex graphical thang. Even then it is very error prone. I am not familiar with an algorithm which is successful on 80% of images. Try GIMP's magic wand selection tool. > 9. please make it SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO easy to donate. I once tried but > gave up. For europe, you might just respond with your IBAN and BIC > bank account from any eu country. if there is one in austria, > preferred, even if IBAN transactions are free of charge within the EU. > I donate EUR 50 right away if you respond with these data. > This one i have heard before. > 10. i once also tried to participate in your forums, but didnt have > the time to dig through the how to. please easier, e.g. option to just > enter with my email address and sned, dont need to discuss, just want > to drop my info to someone who uses it. > In general, Max, raise your issues one at a time for discussion. As you can see i do not have answers for all of these. If they are HOWTO type questions then the user list is a more appropriate forum. If after discussion you still feel there is an issue then a RFE or bugreport can be raised. The RFE process is not trivial however to discourage trivial issues. -- Michael All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well - Julian of Norwich 1342 - 1416 --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [email protected] For additional commands, e-mail: [email protected]
