An odd one this, happens on at least two machines using 3.1.0 under XP.

If I create a new file from explorer using, say, R-click on desktop, then File | New | Opendocument Text, and then double-click the empty file to open it, the language for the document is 'none'; when I then go to OOo's Tools|options|language settings|languages, I find the default language for documents is set to German (which is not installed) although locale is set correctly to English(UK). If I try to change that setting from German to English, the setting does not survive closing and reopening the document, and German reappears.

On the other hand, if I R-click on the quickstart icon (which was running during the above, btw), and select 'text document', all is well - the language for the document is English(UK) as it should be, and indeed Tools|options|language settings|languages is set to English(UK) as it should be (and changes here are remembered by OOo as expected).

On one of the machines in question, I deleted the user's private OOo config area completely, but this made no difference.

Very confusing!! Any ideas please?

(Possibly a bit OT for 'discussion', but last I looked the 'user' list was swamped by totally OT non-OOo irrelevancies and I unsubscribed.)
