With respect to your point 2, you may want to look at

and even contribute to the discussion.

Hi,

My name is Steven. I've only recently worked with OpenOffice, and I like it.
Previously I've been a WordPerfect poweruser, and I also used Microsoft Word.

I think OpenOffice is a great project, and the current version is already very
solid.

Several ideas for additional features:
1. It will be better in my opinion if OpenOffice use a tab system when opening more than
one document. So, there will be only one Window, but several "tabs" open.
2. I've always found WordPerfect to be much better than Microsoft Word. One of the
features from WordPerfect that is very powerful is the Reveal Code. It's basically a way
to let users see the "code" underlying the document. This way, a user can
quickly find out why the document is not displaying as he wants. It also allows the user
to see where certain codes are, such as the page break, the margin, etc.

I'm not criticizing by saying this, but I've noticed that OpenOffice copies a
lot of things from Microsoft Word, whereas I think the more powerful features
are in WordPerfect. The way WordPerfect handles page numbering, footnote,
Margins, etc. are much better than Microsoft Word.

Anyway, thanks for a great software,

Steven
