A useful word counter in a floating dialog:

You can enter a target count to make it display the percentage of your
work done.
It displays the word count within a selection of text or the overall
count if no text range is selected.
Put the linked python file into <user profile>/Script/python/ and create
a customized menu entry, button or event macro.
