One of the tools I miss when using Open Office is that of a modern grammar
and spell-checker.

All the spell-checkers I used so far, they do suggest alternatives to ---
wrongly used, spelled correctly, words.

Fast typing, sometimes "from" ends up "form". Both spelled correctly, one is
wrong the other correct.

Then "there" sounds like "their" but what might have been meant was
"they're".

Yes, I know that such a work might take a small crew of English Majors
several months to complete. Several written books exist that can help: Such
as "The Misspeller's Dictionary", "Synonyms", and good ole' "Websters", and
the skills of the experts.

What I see is a "TOOLS" button for "DETAILED SPELLING/GRAMMAR". When
clicked, any of the highlighted words (such as: there) in question are
clicked, a window might appear that asks, ---*Did you mean:*
*there*"defined as location"
                           *their* "defined as pronoun"
*they're* " contraction for they are"

Then, when the desired underlined word is clicked, it replaces the
highlighted word, and remembers it so that it does not check it again until
the "DETAILED SPELLING/GRAMMAR" button is clicked again.

As for the spelling and punctuation? It should be easy enough to teach a
computer the skills of several English Majors. Such as: Does the series of
words in a sentence have a noun or pronoun, verb, subject? Perhaps
highlighting each in a different color.

Example: *He hit the ball. ----Or ---- He was the hitter of the ball.*

Anyhow, this should give an idea.

Sincerely,

Daniel Kingery
