several months to complete. Several written books exist that can help:
Such as "The Misspeller's Dictionary", "Synonyms", and good ole'
"Websters", and the skills of the experts.
What I see is a "TOOLS" button for "DETAILED SPELLING/GRAMMAR". When
clicked, any of the highlighted words (such as: there) in question are
clicked, a window might appear that asks, ---*Did you mean:* _there_
"defined as location"
_their_ "defined as pronoun"
_they're_ " contraction for they are"
Then, when the desired underlined word is clicked, it replaces the
highlighted word, and remembers it so that it does not check it again
until the "DETAILED SPELLING/GRAMMAR" button is clicked again.
As for the spelling and punctuation? It should be easy enough to teach
a computer the skills of several English Majors. Such as: Does the
series of words in a sentence have a noun or pronoun, verb, subject?
Perhaps highlighting each in a different color.
Example: *He hit the ball. ----Or ---- He was the hitter of the ball.*
Anyhow, this should give an idea.

I really hate to say this, but it is a fact that can neither be ignored
nor changed. You will NEVER find a grammar checker/thesaurus of that
sophistication in an open source word processor. That is why you pay
big money for programs like Microsoft Word. It costs a lot of money to
pay those English Majors, who probably have to be Computer Science
Majors as well in order to produce the kind of advanced grammar checker
software you are asking for.
