On reflection, I realise that I often teach C/C++ programmers to read
expressions (and particularly declarations) right-to-left (aka "start at the
end and read backwards").
This is nothing to do with evaluation order, but an acknowledgement that
*sometimes* reading things "backwards" actually makes more sense!
The reality is somewhat more complex - in many cases it is a matter of
discovering the "subject" of the declaration and working centre-out. This is
especially true of some of the more complex function pointer expressions.
