This fits with my own experience of a conversion MSc
computing degree. I started mine in 1984 after a first
degree in psychology. I had taken a final year option
of Computing in Psychology and learnt Basic on my BSc.
This gave me a head-start on my MSc (the first language
taught was Cobol) and I ended up helping other classmates
on their projects, thereby furthering my understanding
that much more.
Others with prior programming experience also helped
the rest of the class - the outcome wasn't that we ended
up the same level but that those who started out with an
advantage retained their advantage through the experience
of helping the others.
