Funnily enough, hashing is a technique that I very rarely use. There is
a definite tendency amongst programmers to have a vocabulary of
techniques that is their particular ideolect - above and beyond the
standard techniques that everyone knows. Rob Pike, for instance, likes
to write little compilers in his programs that deal with higher level
represenations of the problem. I like to write interpeters where you
Jack up a layer and stick another one in underneath (the Newcastle
Connection!!). I'm sure that others of you can chip in with your
favourites.
