I agree. I would catagorize the example under domain knowledge, rather than under programming knowledge. If I were to develop a financial application, I would need knowledge of economics and formula used in economics, but that does not warrant that every Computer Science student around the world should be taught economics. I believe the question is whether the amount of mathematics taught in Computer Science is disproportional to its actual use during software development. I am hard pressed to come up with any examples where I have needed mathematics beyond high-school level for my programming tasks. Certainly logical thinking, state machines, etc. are useful, but I don't think you need a mathematical degree to understand those concepts. > And BTW, does anybody know what I should tell my enquirer? You could redirect him to the comp.graphics.algorithms newsgroup where domain experts hang out. - Automatic footer for [EMAIL PROTECTED] ---------------------------------- To unsubscribe from this list, mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] unsubscribe discuss To join the announcements list, mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] subscribe announce To receive a help file, mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] help This list is archived at http://www.mail-archive.com/discuss%40ppig.org/ If you have any problems or questions, please mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]
