PPIG Colleagues,
The deadline for the UK + Irish collaborative research is very close. If
you are interested in submitting a joint proposal with me in the
following area:
- Devlopment of language independent techniques to teach
programming, problem solving, syntax, perhaps using techniques
similar to the analogy approach I introduced at PPIG 2002. Concepts
to be covered : I/O, data types, variables,
sequence/selection/iteration, subroutines
- Implement these techniques and compare how effective they are in
teaching different langauages e.g. Pascal, Java C. Compare and
contrast the various problems in translating the analogy into a piece
of working code in the students programming language.
This is a rough idea at the moment and will need to be explored in
much greater detail in a pretty short timeframe. If you want to commit
to a project proposal could you please contact me asap. I apologise
