Sometime in the last few years I heard
second-hand about a study about
the value of keeping the worst employee
around. The gist was things such as
that it gave other employees a benchmark
by which to judge themselves superior
("I'm not as good as Joe, but at least
I'm way better than Harry!").
I've been searching in vain for the
actual study or a citation to it for
some weeks now. Does anybody
remember anything like this and
any details that would help me
track it down? I thought for sure
it was a Harvard Business Review
product, but a lot of searching there
turned up nothing.
TIA...
