I agree the discussion is depressing (or perhaps mildly
entertaining, if you're not a stakeholder). I'd just like to
observe that several of the contributors to this discussion are
people who haven't attended PPIG meetings, or published any
related research, for a long time, if ever.

The PPIG list was set up out of a well-established workshop 
series at which very few people come to promote new tools and 
methodologies. Instead, we are seriously interested in what 
works and why. We don't care whether it was invented in the 
1960s, 1970s, or 200 BC.
