Having a long word is likely to play havoc with any
internal algorithms people have for scanning text.

I found a similar slightly left of center position exists
for identifiers, but it is not so pronounced.

Of course abbreviations are likely to cause similar problems
(because they are not that common in written text {by that I
mean abbreviations of words that are not words, not abbreviated
words that are now accepted as words}).
