You can configure a PropertyPlaceholderConfigurer into the application context: http://static.springframework.org/spring/docs/2.5.x/api/org/springframework/beans/factory/config/PropertyPlaceholderConfigurer.html It resolves placeholders from either system properties or a configured property file / inline list.
