Thank you very much for this work around. It has resolved my problem.
My remaining question is what effect does
System.clearProperty("http.proxyHost");
have on the function of the system? Is it safe to do this in the context of an
Applet? I will conditionally add it solely for debug since it isn't needed for
production, but I was wondering what side effects I should watch for.
