I think recently, I made a comment that I was trying to put together a wireless community at a Marina here in Portland. I have decided on the equipment and the only thing I am lacking now is a peer review from my peer who are without peer! :)

AP: Engenius EOR 7550 (dual radio 802.11a/b/g/n and radio2 is 802.11b/g/n)

Antennas: 12dBi 2.4GHz Omnidirectional with elect 3 degree downward tilt
The second antenna is undecided. Originally, I was think I would do 28dBi 5.8 Parabolic, but since I decided to add a third AP, it is now undecided. Obviously, the 5.8 would serve as backbone connection to the second AP, so I thought the parabolic would do the trick. But now I want to add a third AP, so it gets a little muddy. Plus, the location for the 2 primary AP are questional as well.

The environment: The marina main dock is approximately 1000'. The main AP will be mount on a dolphin which is approximately 50' above the docks. At the other end of the dock is another dolphin which is the same height and there the second AP will be mounted and bridged. The reason for the third AP is across the channel (about 100' for so) and about 45' higher than the AP, is the parking lot and an area where RV (live aboards) are located. I figured I would do omni on this AP, to allow for good coverage of the parking area as well as more coverage to the boats within the marina. This AP would also be bridged.

Because of the third bridged AP, that threw my idea about the window. But I thought about maybe doing a 5.8 sector antenna the could provide decent coverage to the two bridged APs. Or at least that is what I am thinking in theory.

Of course, I will be using pfSense to manage the devices, and handle QoS, authentication, and proxy service.

So that is it in a nutshell, and I look for anything that you guys want to offer....

Thanks,

K.
