FWIW, we currently have one member paying $250/mo at this level. Spiff calls it "benefactor", but renaming it is easy. I really don't think anyone has an issue with making it easier for people to throw more money at us. > > Second: Bumping the requirement for a key from any member rank up to > serious geek ($55/mo). I should also add that the proposal should include removing the one time $20 key fee (but keeping the $5 deposit). This is how HSL handles things, according to Ryan Rix. I'm sure he can add some more feedback on details. I'm very much on the edge about this. A couple of people (including all of those who already have keys) are considering upgrading to Serious Geek. Currently, the incentives to get basic membership (budding nerd) are: * A say in our future via meetings * You can apply for a key * Your money keeps us alive * The officers are responsible to the members, so your complaints don't fall on deaf ears and your proposals don't just vanish into thin air during a meeting. * You are able to participate in the do-ocracy by moving stuff around The current incentives for serious geek are all of the above, plus: * Webspace (we're still working on that, since nobody has actually requested it yet) I think having smaller, non dedicated storage (i.e. you might find an empty bin or not) is included with this, but I can't find it on the Membership page (so it technically isn't official). Additionally, Übergeeks are given a dedicated storage unit at the space. That is not yet official but more or less happening thanks to Devin. I don't think charging an extra $20/mo for just a key is worth it. Getting the storage bins added in (will probably be available by opening day, actually) makes it a bit better. So here's my question: What else can we throw in to validate the higher cost? I'm wondering if we could always have a "next hardware fund", which is what a portion of serious geek dues goes towards and is publicly visible. If everyone sees that we're 5 months away from getting that laser cutter and adding another member to that rank would cause us to get it a month sooner, that'd be kinda cool. > > I'll be adding my own contribution to discussion in a second mail once > I've thought about it more. > > _______________________________________________ > Discuss mailing list > [email protected] > http://synhak.org/mailman/listinfo/discuss _______________________________________________ Discuss mailing list [email protected] http://synhak.org/mailman/listinfo/discuss
