The pedal crank snapped in half. If it were all aluminum a skilled

makes it impossible (and toxic) to weld as far as i know. A new
crankset only runs about thirty bucks on Amazon. I'm sure you could get
it cheaper if you looked.
Andrew has said it best. It is probably alloyed with zinc or magnesium which
when you attempt to weld it, the part will just crumble. I live two doors down
from a bike shop and can stop this coming week and see if they have anything
left over from fixing a bike. If you are in dire need I can give you a
fantastically purple mens mountain bike. The gears are sticky but it rides.

I would contact a local bike shop and see if they have any donated parts that
would give you. There are some bike rebuild groups local that might have the
part for free.

I saw a tig welder in the shop it should be able to weld aluminum if you have
the right filler rod and working material. The problem as I see it is that cast
aluminum won't weld like extruded aluminium.
I haven't seen the break but you might be better off with job weld or other
epoxy. Or scrap the part and get a new/used one. What part is broken?

I know there are issues welding aluminum. But Trever seemed to think that they
had equipment for doing that. Sorry if there was some misunderstanding.

Devin said that your bike can't be welded because of the type of metal it is.
I'm sorry

Hi sorry I missed the welding presentation Wednesday.
I asked this on Facebook but maybe Devin reads this mailing list more often -
is there any chance Devin will be able to come in at another time to help me
weld by bike crank back together?
Devin has my permission to weld it on his own - but apparently I need to be
there. Problem is, it takes me like an hour to walk there, so I can't go there
whenever I want and probably not at all at night!
I'll be stopping by again Saturday (tomorrow) though. If Devin is free on
Saturday we could meet there then.
Devin, please let me know what works for you, or if you would rather not help
me fix the bike and I should try something else entirely.
Thanks!
Ted
