Is synhak a 501c3 now?
Nope, not quite. Still waiting on the IRS to process us. I do not know when
that happens or how much longer it'll take. There is nobody we can talk to to
speed things up. That is exactly 100% of the information I know about it.
To give the tiniest bit more of information on our 501c3 status:
The IRS currently has a MASSIVE backlog of nonprofit applications, and
is currently processing applications received in April 2012. Ours was
submitted and confirmed to have been received by the IRS in September of
2012.
If anyone is ever curious where we stand in line on the 501c3 status,
you can check the IRS's current backlog at this URL:
http://www.irs.gov/Charities-&-Non-Profits/Where-Is-My-Exemption-Application
You want to read the part that says "Currently, we are assigning
applications received in....." and compare that to September 2012 to get
an idea.
The optimist in me is hoping that we should be 501c3 approved by the end
of this tax year, but given the glacial rate the IRS has been moving at
with these nonprofit applications, that may not be the case.
Thanks,

Yup. We've got a form for that. Bring in the computer and we'll write you
a
donation reciept.

To add on to what Torrie is saying, these systems can also be resold,
spend $100 to make one, sell it back out at $150 on craigslist.
Refurbishing old machines can be a source of income for the space,
instead
of just dues and cash donations, I'm more than happy to put in the work.
As I asked in my original post, if anyone has any *working *socket 775
motherboards, power supplies, DDR2 or DDR3 RAM and working monitors, or
a
reputable source of working parts at a cheaper price, please let me know
as
Craig did (Craig we can go over the details in person and contact your
guy
about stocks and price.) Justin, I chose these parts because they come
from
reputable dealers where I know we'll get working components with a
recourse
if the turn out to be faulty vs buying on Craigslist or Goodwill where
quality can be suspect and no returns are possible.
I also support the idea of holding off on this as suggested by Xander to
find out what we are going to do about our location before purchasing
new
assets. For now, I've already created one working computer using what we
have, I can set that up in the electronics lab as an electronics design
station like Torrie suggested which is a FANTASTIC idea that I didn't
think
of. That I can do tonight.
Torrie, Xander, Justin, Craig, I really love and appreciate your input,
great ideas are coming from everyone on this, I look forward to next
meeting :)
