PROPOSAL

I would like to offer a proposal to establish a reduced monthly membership
rate for seniors.

The senior membership rate would be available to any active or prospective
member who is at least 62 years old.

Proof of age can be determined by a birth certificate, state driver's
license, a state ID card, a DD214 military discharge form, a student ID
card from a recognized school, or a valid US passport.

The proposed rate would be $20 per month, with a 10% discount available for
pre-payment of three or more months at one time.

A reduced rate for seniors would be an incentive for retention of existing
members as well as an inducement to prospective senior members.

Here are five good reasons for my proposal =

(1) A reduced rate for seniors is in line with similar discounts offered by
many stores, businesses and organizations, both locally and nationally.

(2) A reduced rate for seniors will be viewed as an acknowledgement for
successfully working and surviving in our society for several generations.

(3) It will be a token "thank you" for the knowledge, wisdom, insight, and
experience that senior members can and will bring to the organization.

(4) It will be a sign of positive enforcement for the member who still has
the motivation to learn, contribute, create, experiment, and teach others.
It will support the personal desire be involved in our hackerspace, in
spite of the advancing years and the need of an afternoon nap.

(5) It will offer a small, but significant, reduction in outgoing expenses
for the senior member on a limited income or budget, as compared to the
regular membership rate.

This proposal has been under casual discussion since December 2013, but has
not had the required one week of open discussion on the SH Discussion List.

I invite the reader to offer their constructive criticisms, suggestions and
comments on the proposal.

The proposal can be brought up for acceptance by consensus at the next
weekly meeting on Tuesday, May 20, 2014.

I hope you view this proposal as an important modification to the official
policy concerning membership at SYN/HAK.

Thanks for your time and attention to this issue - you have my appreciation.

Sincerely,

Philip
