I downloaded Express for the hey of it since it's free. Seems pretty cool.
Took me a minute or too to get a DSN working through CFadmin. I'm using
"Management Studio Express" as the admin tool. Doesn't seem to provide an
easy way to import/export data or DTS.

I also tried to use the restore feature to bring an older sql sever database
back to life (from device) but that bombed of course.

DTS from SQL Server 2000 can connect to SQL Server 2005 databases if you do
not have SSIS. I have used that on more than one occasion to move data.

Yes and yes. You should be able to move your schema over seamlessly.

Anyone use SQL Server Express for developing CF apps on a local PC with
windows XP Pro? Is this a good (cheap) solution for a development platform
if the live platform will have SQL Server 2005? Will a database developed
with SQL Server Express port over well and is the Interface for SQL Server
Express similar to Enterprise Manager?

Thx,
