It's just that I'm being super careful to pay attention to speed, and had
read that there were performance hits on self-joins. Maybe I shouldn't take
it all to heart.
You're right, of course. Minimizing the amount of data on my page and
filtering it based on what they need to see would certainly make sense.
Their pitiful computers and bandwidth are tops on the list for development.
Regarding PK's - Here are the relative fields in the Document table:
Document_seq (PK)
DocumentName
FileName
Department_seq (FK)
DocumentType_seq (FK) (e.g., SOP, Addendum, Appendix, ConsentForm)
PrimaryDocument_seq (self-join capturing Document_seq)
*Page will list:*
Department
Standard of Procedure
Addenda
Amendment to Addendum
Appendices (Number unknown)
ConsentForm
Department2
...and so on...
Each DocumentName will be a link to the FileName.
