I don't know your entire problem or system, so I don't know if this would
work for you - but another solution would be to add a column to your
Address table that's called something like "preferred".  You would need to
find a clean way to keep the field updated, probably during input of the
address data.  Then when you do a select, you can just use that flag and
pull out the right stuff.

This would also give you some flexibility (if you need it) to override your
cascade of address types when needed.
