just a note, this defeats the purpose of deferred instantiation, on a small
stack no problem, but a with a larger one or one with a large child this
would increase application startup time. How to do this otherwise, I'm not
100% certain, thinking a super() call may be missing in a overridden method
or something????

You might try setting the creationPolicy="all" for the view stack to force
child creation.

So, I have a ViewStack with a a Canvas, and 2 custom controls that inherit
from Canvas. The ViewStack also implements an interface with the function
show(), which is called when the screen comes into focus by its parent (a
TabNavigator).

The first thing ViewStack does is set the selectedChild to one of the
custom controls, which works fine, and then calls the function show() on
that child, which according to trace(), also works fine.

Then here comes the problem: the very first time the ViewStack's custom
control child is called, the custom control's show doesn't do anything.
However, switching to a different tab in the ViewStack's parent
TabNavigator, and then switching back to to the ViewStack… everything works
fine.

Any ideas or hints would be very much helpful, as I'm lost on trying to
figure this one out….

Aye aye aye
