the menu loads fine, but nothing happens when we click a menu item. It needs to open a specified website.

The menu itself or the URL you want to navigate to based on a click in the menu? Andy's example shows how to capture the event on click of a item. To actually open a browser window and nav to a URL in your data based on this click, look at UrlRequest.
