interestingly the client I'm working with is using a product from Lotus/IBM call Expeditor. Someone on Flexcoders just mentioned its approach to this in a thread on what is now known as Merapi. Basically you can bundle your app with a container, say Tomcat, and have your Flex/AIR app chat with it via localhost. The app would detect when a network was available and do its syncing thing. The container can use say HSQL or, in the case of Exeditor, use Derby. You'd have to use Java, unless your client can spring for a CF license per user! oh, heck, use Bluedragon maybe.
off the wall thought: if the above is possible, why isn't say a app that installs Apache, PHP, and MySQL with a AIR/Flex UI?
