I found this blog entry by Ben Forta about creating a ComboBox with 
selectedValue support which seems like it should give me what I need. The 
problem is I'm already using the BindableComboBox and I'm not sure how to 
modify the code to use BindableComboBox instead of ComboBox as the base 
.

yeah, I suggest not using binding at all here. Just use the events and code teh 
logic exactly the way you want it to outcome.
