Yeah, I know these effects quite well :-) However, the AT86RF230-based boards could still serve a purpose, namely for compatibility testing when developing the driver. The linux-zigbee project currently has a (very basic) AT86RF230 driver, and it would probably be desirable to support this chip in a combined driver that also uses some of the more advanced features. (That is, unless everyone else has thrown away their AT86RF230 already, but that's probably not the case.)
