check the "/usr/bin/gmenu2x"
there is one line : 
  setfont2 /usr/share/setfont2/un-fuzzy-6x10-font.pnm
which give us a nice font but no color. 

we can add more options in gmenu2x. then we can enable/disable it
like:
  [ ] using setfont2 (black/white nice font)
  [ ] mount data partition when boot
