I'm using MPD successfully (without this problem) with a build of the 2011-02-23 release; it's a custom build, but I don't believe that I changed anything that would make mpd build differently. I've also heard from someone else that the mpd from the 2011-05-28 release `just doesn't see his files', though I didn't think to ask if he could try the 2011-02-23 release.
