This is the sort of thing that I meant--we don't have VAT, in the US.

Depending on what specific US state the buyer and seller are in
(and if they're in the same state), there may or may not be
some state-specific sales tax (for example: Massachusetts imposes
various taxes on different types of goods, including sales tax, so
`$99' for something like a Nanonote is really more like $106 there;
New Hampshire (the next state over) doesn't have sales tax, so
`$99' is really $99); advertised prices in the US generally
*do not* include applicable taxes, however.
