Hi Jon,

I have had my Ben a little while. I just got a micro sd card (2 gb). 4 buck for
the card. I have not flashed latest os yet. I'm leaving
for trip soon and have not had time. I am going to bring the Ben along. Have
usb charger. Not sure charger working properly. At least I can charge via
laptop. Will
be laptop I can use to charge it up on the trip, though could run out of juice
at airport or on plane. I got to admit that I would have gotten a cheap linux
netbook, but they almost all
don't exist. I heard Microsoft squashed them by lowering price of bundled os. I
didn't want to spend lots of $$ on tiny netbook. That is where Ben came in. $94
via amazon for Ben is cool!
I think the updating os is a little ridiculous, though probably cool as a
learning exercise. Remembering back to days of slackware floppy
disk installation, not as bad as that! I found some ogg files on internet
archive and I suppose I can convert other sound files to that format.
As I mentioned in earlier email, I primarily will use Ben as music player and
just to experiment, in general (i.e. python, gcc etc..).

Although most people getting Ben have linux on another machine, for me, it kind
of defeated the purpose of having to buy Ben and then get
ahold of a linux machine to updated it. That is wifi is so important. Who cares
if it is partially proprietary - at least I don't... Linux for home use has not
been big for me with owning a Mac os/x laptop and normal windoze machine. Use
linux at work. Has not worked at home for anything useful yet....

But, my complaints are minor considering how cool the Ben is and it is a full
fledged computer and not a cell phone you need to hack.
