As promised we need to decide today what platform we will use for our
hackadon crowdfunding campaign. Here is my opinion.
Goteo offers useful features - projects description in multiple
languages displayed automatically, space for institutional sponsors,
direct interactions with sponsors, source code available on open
license, they are partners of LibreFunding.
However, even though I still haven't heard back from them regarding our
questions, I found a couple of worrying things on the FAQ:
- two rounds of financing 40 days each are required, and we don't have a
clear vision or time to organise the second round
- after submitting the project it can take up to two weeks for it to be
approved, and then one extra week for corrections - we don't have that time
- there are extra fees when collecting money to French account; I don't
know the exact difference (asked them), but dealing with foreign entity
can also generate fiscal issues for us and for our institutional sponsors
Although Goteo is great, I think we should go with Arizuka this year and
try them next year when we have more time and experience.
Bastien, you can try to use our campaign to lobby them to open their
source;)
