I tend to disagree. For starters, there are already a lot of tags that do this, such as Jakarta Taglibs (http://jakarta.apache.org/taglibs/). I think we should focus on table design (everything where lists need to be displayed). There is a lot left to be desired, among:
- editing support (??) - table in inline HTML, so people only scroll inside a small window in their webpage - sorting on mutiple columns (sort order 1, sort order 2, etc) - dynamic placing of columns (user can choose where he wants which column to be displayed from left to right, and this is stored in cookie) - improving export to excel - better exception handling - searching within a column or table Cheers, Mathias ----- Original Message ----- From: "Andy Pruitt" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Thursday, October 30, 2003 10:52 PM Subject: [displaytag-devel] DisplayTag Mission If I had to proclaim a mission statement for DisplayTag, I would say: "DisplayTag.org is the best source of custom tags for formatting your data." This means, first and foremost, more tags. autoLink, maxWords, maxLength, and more and more. DisplayTag should not have a controller framework. No controller, no database access, etc. Just tags you would use to format data. With DisplayTag, the simple tasks should be easy and the hard tasks should be possible. It should still be easy to get up and going; continue with the minimal config route; bring the tag attributes and usage in line with the JSTL idioms. There really isn't anywhere - aside from JSTL - to go out and get a set of display tags that work well together. DisplayTag.org should be the spot! --andy pruitt ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: SF.net Giveback Program.
