Oh and I had a question about dependencies. To write tests for the
Portlet* classes I either need to mock out some of the javax.portlet
classes or use mocked objects from elsewhere. The spring frameworks
sandbox has all of the javax.portlet mock objects needed which would be
nice to use but their is no spring-sandbox JAR in the maven repos. Any
suggestions on how I should deal with it?

Are there any developers out there who could comment on getting this

I will be happy to include your contribution in the displaytag
project. In the past I used successfully displaytag in websphere
portal 4 and 5 by simply adding a custom RequestHelper (the
WpsRequestHelper in displaytag 1.0), and the extensibility in the core
was just tied to that experience.
I would like to add any extension as a separate module in cvs, for
better extensibility, so I will not commit anything to the main taglib
(except for changes needed to the core).
Your extensions could be added as a totally separate module
("displaytag-jsr168" or anything similar): if you want to help on this
you could try creating the module (copying from the
displaytag-export-poi actually in cvs), adding at least a simple
configuration how-to (apt format). Just prepare the project and add a
zip to JIRA, I will test and commit it.
